Imagine a darkened space. Light suddenly illuminates flickering images. People in the space gaze at these images. What is their reaction? Why are they there? What do they see?

This could be a description of an early cinema but instead it is of a cave, deep underground. The images are drawn or scratched upon the walls and ceiling of the cave.

Your task is to think of as many questions as possible about these details from cave paintings Share your questions with other members of your class. Put together a set of class questions and then in groups, try to answer those questions.

Don’t forget, nobody knows why these paintings were drawn in the caves or why the subject of the paintings was chosen.
